Text

Two weeks ago I sent a poem to The Quad to be published in memory of Steven A. Tillman, a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., who died of alcohol poisoning on April 17,1993, but the poem didn't appear in The Quad. Let it be known at Steven attended West Chester University from 1986 to 1990. In fact, he was a resident assistant at Sanderson in the fall of 1989 until the spring of 1990. Like many of us, Steven wanted to make a difference; he wanted to make the world a better place. But contrary to a lot of us, he didn't just sit on his Mβ hoping and waiting for amirack to happen. He reached out to people, especially to the young. He tried to ensure the survival of our young black people by educating Aem, and, most importantly, by showing them that some of us, although very few, really do care. Steven was a true leader. His leadership was motivated by deep caring rather than recognition. And I would really hate to see his hard work forgotten. I refuse to let history repeat itself by letting another one of our leaders go unnoticed. I wish that The Quad would dedicate more time to issues that concern the students and less time on trivial issues that no one even bothers to read.
