Text
Mel Hinton, defensive end for the Golden Ram football team is being noticed. By the Dallas Cowboys. . . Hinton received a questionnaire from the Cowboys the second week of February. "That can mean they were looking at me somewhat," Mel grinned broadly. Mel is broad. The 19 year old health and physical education junior is 6'4" and 220 pounds. He came to West Chester State from Overbrook High in Philadelphia, where he starred in football, soccer and track. Mel also continued with track in his freshman and sophomore year but dropped out to lift weights and "bulk up." Mel's reaction to the Cowboy's letter was, "Wow! Dallas . . . I'm gonna give all I got — I'll work harder than I usually do — hopefully they'll pick me up." "But right now I'm interested in playing for West Chester. This year we have to win the championship." "This may sound corny, but the coaches really help, my personal coach, Coach Bove, has helped me tremendously. Coach Furlow is an inspiration. And the band keeps us going." "All these people contribute — you shouldn't just interview me. We're like a family, one unit." "Sophomore year I talked to a few scouts. Most were here to see Tom Pierantozzi (now with the Baltimore Colts) or Merritt Kersey, so I was introduced around." "Next year is the big year. . ."
