The West Chester State indoor track squad ran its unbeaten string to 55, as they whipped Temple and Gettysburg at Hollinger Field House, Friday night Golden Ram head coach, Bill Butler,, had expected some stiff competition from Temple, but WCSC completely dominated both the Owls and Gettysburg. The final margin of victory was WCSC 87 points, Temple 36 points, and Gettysburg 3 points. West Chester won both relays. The mile relay consisting of Paul Rauenzahn, Ram Attarian, Bill Bixler, and Jim Agnew WOtl in a time of 3:34.7. THE FOUR-LAP RELAY was the most crowd pleasing event of the evening. Joe Bailiff ran the first leg and was inadvertently bumped in the tunnel. The diminutive speedster stumbled, and almost fell in the straight away. He recovered, gained some valuable ground, but still handed off to Rick Corrado in third place. Corrado was making up some distance when he ran past the high jump pit. Previous to Corrado's arrival, a jumper and a startled Corrado hurdled the flying ' bar. Corrado then handed off to Boldasser who ran an impressive leg. Ed blew past second place Gettysburg, and gained considerable ground on Temple. He handed off to Reid in a strong second place position. Reid turned on all the speed as he roared past the Temple anchorman to win the relay in 1:17.0. The Rams' Jim Keys and Gene Sekulshi finished one-two in the shot put. Keys' effort of 51'4" was good enough to top Sekulski's 50' 5 1/4 ". Both men improved their distances that saw them finish one-two in last week's meet. Bob Roup, copped first place in the pole vault with a vault of 13' 6". The Rams' other strong vaulter, Joe Talley, failed to compete due to injury. However, this pair will represent the Golden Rams next week at the IC4A meet which will be held at Princeton, N.J. The high jump was the lone event which the Rams did not win. Temple's George Horn won the event at 6'B" while WCSC's Kirk White finished third with a leap of 6' 2". White will also participate in the IC4A meet next week. A strong WC event was the 45 yard high hurdles. Jeff Warren (5.7*) won the event with Mel Hinton (5.8) and Dave Jensen (5.8) close behind. This trio will also make the trip to Princeton. West Chester will also have their three excellent sprinters in next week's IC4A meet. On Friday, Sam Reid reeled off a quick 4.8 which nosed out Temple's Turrel Burnett (4.9) and teammate Joe Bailiff (4.9). Reid, Bailiff, and the injured Henry Barr have all qualified for the meet. Reid came back in the 220, winning - the event by churning out a 23.6. This time again bested Burnett's 23.7, while WC's Ed Boldasser took third with a 23.8. West Chester completely dominated the 440. Jim Agnew, who will represent the Rams at Princeton, was clocked in 51.5, winning the race. Frank Vnuk (51.6-f), Charles Griffin (51.7) and Paul Rauenzahn (53.2) completed the WC domination. Bill Dawson and Bill Showers were the co-winners of the mile with a 4:27.8 time. The duo had a five second advantage over their nearest rivals. Dave Patterson ran a strong two mile (9:31.4) to record another WC first place. Patterson will take his purple & gold to Princeton. Dawson finished third in the event at 10:06.7. In the 880, Bob Dougherty won for the second week in a row with a time of 2:00.8. Showers finished second (2:01.8) and Vaughn Zimmermen took third (2:02.2).
