<text>Sports Rams lock horns; draw extra points are missed by Gus Sortino Quad Correspondent The West Chester Golden Rams battled to a 24-24 tie with Cheyney State. The game proved to be a duel between two of the finest running backs in the league. West Chester's Tyrone Scott (101 yards and three touchdowns) and Cheyney's Mark Johnson (103 yards and three touchdowns). West Chester opened the scoring in the first period on a three yard run by Scott for a 7-0 lead. Cheyney came right back and scored on a two yard run by Johnson. The extra point attempt failed and the Rams held a slim 7-6 lead. In the second quarter the only score was a five yard run by Scott to give West Chester a 14-6 lead at the half. In the second half the Wolves scored early on a 29 yard scoring pass from quarterback Tyrone Balkum to Mark Johnson, to make the score 14-12. The Rams fought back as Scott scored his third touchdown of the evening on a brilliant 12 yard run. Placekicker Jim Zelenak added to the score with a 34 yard field-goal to make it 24-12. The Ram defense was unable to hold the lead as the Wolves came up with two scores to tie it. The first was a brilliant 78 yard run by Johnson for his third touchdown of the game. The second score was a four yard pass from Balkum to wide receiver Mike Steward. The difference in the game proved to be in the extra point attempts. Cheyney missed all four attempts and had to settle for the tie. The tie now brings the Rams record to 4-4-1 with one game remainine next week against Salisbury State </text>

<text>Sports Rams win in finale by Gus Sortino Quad Correspondent The West Chester Golden Rams defeated Salisbury State (Md.) 23-21 Friday night at Farrell Stadium. The win gave the Rams their first winning season (5-4-1) since 1976. The Rams built an early lead in the first half, only to watch it slip away. They then had to rely on some last minute heroics to win. West Chester scored on the first possession of the evening following one of the three turnovers by Salisbury State in the first half. Ram halfback Tyrone Scott (20 carries 83 yards 2 TDs) opened the scoring in the first period on a two-yard run. Kicker Jim Zelenak added the extra point and the Rams had a 7-0 lead. Two minutes later Zelenak connected on a twenty yard field goal and the score was 10-0. The Rams' next score followed a diving interception by Don Hazen which gave West Chester possession at the Salisbury 34 yard line. Sophomore quarterback Bob Rafferty led the offense on a nine play drive that ended with Rafferty plowing over from the one to make it 16-0 at the half. In the second half West Chester's over-all dominance was quickly turned around. Salisbury State led by quarterback Anthony Bell scored twice in the third quarter. Bell connected with wide receiver Mike Hebron on scoring tosses of 22 and four yards to make the score 16-14 going into the final quarter. The Sea Gulls took the lead with just six minutes remaining to play when Bell hit receiver Jimmy Jones who broke loose and raced 80 yards for the score and put Salisbury State in front 21-16. With just under four minutes remaining the Rams marched down field for the deciding score. West Chester quarterback Ron Gay nor threw a perfect 18- yard touchdown pass to speedy wide receiver Bruce Carthon with just a minute remaining. The Rams finished the season very strongly, going unbeaten in their last four games. The Golden Rams won three and tied one, (last week against Cheyney 24- 24). Ram's Bruce Carthon (center) clears a path for halfback Tyrone Scott. The Rams ended their season last Friday night with a 23-21 win over Salisbury State</text>

<text>What's Wrong With The Rams? by Bill Harvey Question: What's wrong with the Rams? The Rams, to the surprise of many people, have lost their first two football games. The team has not lived up to preseason expectations. The fact is, it has not even come close to achieving their full potential. The ,big question is "Why?" It's a very difficult question to answer. A look at the Rams' two previous games may help to provide an answer. In the opener against East Carolina College, the Rams expected a tough fight. Few people, however, anticipated a 33- 7 loss. Against the Pirates, West Chester achieved a total of 14 first downs, 148 yards passing, 101 yards rushing, and 7 points scored. They punted six times, and had one pass intercepted. East Carolina's statistics show 15 first downs, 201 yards passing, 132 yards rushing and 33 points scored. The Pirates had two passes intercepted, and punted three times. According to statistics, the Rams were outplayed, tout not nearly enough to merit a 26 point deficit. It would seem that the defense wasn't adequately prepared for such a tough foe in the opening game. The pass defense allowed 201 yards. The offense just couldn't seem to get moving. The Stroudsburg game shows little difference. West Chester compiled 82 yards rushing, 110 yards passing, and a total of 13 first downs. The Rams punted 5 times and had 4 passes intercepted.East Stroudsburg accumulated 299 yards on the ground at 15 yards via the air. The Warriors punted 6 times, and had one pass intercepted. The final score was 13-0, with Stroudsburg holding the victory margin. In the second game the offense just couldn't come up with the big play when it was necessary. The rushing defense gave up 299 yards. The opening loss to East Carolina may have drained the spirit from the team, and resulted in last week's upset by Stroudsburg. Then too, all the state colleges "gun" for West Chester. A team that is "up" for a game is a hard team to beat. All of this plus the problem of injuries and a tough schedule makes it rough on the Rams. This is not to say that the Rams will not have a successful season. You can be assured that Coach Bonder and all the team members will give their utmost every time they take the field. Neither is it an excuse for the two previous losses that the Rams have suffered. The team has lost two games, it is true, but, they still have six more to play, and they will play all six to tre best of their ability. But, even if they should lose all six, we should be proud of the team and of the school it represents. It is a lot harder to be a good loser than it is to be a good winner. </text>

He has long hair and he wears sandals. He's become cynical because of the ridiculous condition the world is in and his inability to do anything about it. He's seeking the answers through meditation." "People should be able to make up their own minds and do as they please. Anyone who tries to restrict their freedom is either ignored or put down as a fool by the masses of conformists or maybe non-conformists. Who is to say whether they are the former or the latter?," replied Joseph Morris, a junior secondary Georgraphy major. Edward Coyle, a junior political science major, adds this final comment, "He stands for authority. People don't like authority. He'll say something and if people DO hear it; they don't necessarily have to do it, even though they know it to be right and might get guilt complexes if they fail to do it." The survey shows that students on this campus are listening to more than the beat of the music. Most of the interviews covered moral and social tendencies in their answers, with several of the answers definitely moving toward liberal thought in religion, human relations and drugs.</text>

<text>WCU Administration apologizes for past discrimination In the decades before the Civil Rights movement, West Chester University was among many schools and institutions that committed racial discriminations against black members of the student body. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, President Madeleine Wing Adler formally apologized to alumni in attendance as part of the annual Civility Day event on campus. The alumni were also invited to speak about their experiences at WCU and the incidents of discrimination they faced during their time here. "The current administration, students, faculty and staff of WCU acknowledge with profound regret discriminatory practices, such as restrictions on campus housing and the use of other facilities and services, that brought unequal and ill treatment to the institution of Black students throughout many decades of the twentieth century," Adler said. The event skewed away from the general theme of this year's Civility Day theme of'Go Green', focusing on discrimination, but fit into the previous year's themes to focus on challenging the University community to think about civility. The alumni that participated in the event were members of athletic teams, music majors and students of the teacher's college. They attested to African-American students not Blacks in attendance recall prejudices being allowed to live on campus, receiving low grades, being discouraged in their studies and being forced to sleep on the bus on away games for the sports teams. Later blacks could attain residence hall living, but were segregated from Caucasians. WCU administration gave a proclamation to each of the alumni offering regret, apology and a policy to resist discrimination on campus. "[The University's policy of not] practicing, condoning or tolerating acts or expressions of prejudice, inequality or incivility."
