Chuck D, leader and co-founder of the rap group Public Enemy, will speak to the students of West Chester University about race, rage, inequality, and racial profiling in the rap community on Wednesday, March 13. He believes that the history of the black community can often be associated with its music. Chuck D has been in the music industry for 20 years. He has pushed hip-hop in many new directions.However, his talents are not excludedexcluded to the music industry. Chuck D is also involved with HBO's campaign for national peace and the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Chuck D recently broke into the literary world with his book, Fight for Power: Rap, Race and Reality. His book is a guide to the postmillenium hip-hop mind. "He is one of the most politically and socially conscious artists of any generation," said Spike Lee, movie director. Chuck D has worked with various other artists such as LL Cool J, Beastie Boys and U2. He has spoken extensively about his passion to change racial problems in society. Also a member of MTV's Rock the Vote and Music Cares Organizations, Chuck D won the Patrick Lippert Award for Community Service in 1996 for his work with Rock the Vote. He has also served as a reporter for the Fox Channel News. Chuck D is very prominent in the' cyber world. He established a presence on the Internet in 1999. He launched a Web site titled, Rapstation.com and later the web radio station Bringthenoise.com. Chuck D has graced the covers of prominent magazines such as TIME, Forbes, and USA Today as well as being on the cover of various Web-based magazines. Entering into film, Chuck D appeared in the film, Burn, Holly- wood, Burn. Chuck D will discuss these issues at 8 p.m. in the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building. Tickets are $7 and under, and can be purchased at the ticket window in Sykes Student Union. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities are available upon request or by calling 610-436-2983.
