Pigskin Preview by Bill Harvey As I watched the Rams go through their paces in preparation for their opening game against East Carolina State on September 19, it becomes apparent why West Chester is once again favored to repeat as champions of the State College Conference. The Rams seem to have: found just the right recipe for winning football games. They blend a potent offense with a sharp defense, and throw in a goodly amount of team spirit to spice the mixture. West Chester's great quarterback Terry Eberly is the man who keeps the offense moving. His credentials show 81 passes completed, good for 993 yards and 12 TD's last season. John Gerney and Clayton Burchill fill the halfback slots, while John Florence mans the fullback position. The offense uses a T-offense •with split ends, flankers and men-in-motion. The defense works off a sixman line with variations, and is keyed around linebacker Bill lacone and Jim Holt, who is also second string quarterback. Coach Jim Bonder's athletes compiled a record of eight vie-1 tories and one loss last season. The Dunkel rating system ranked the team third in the state last year behind Pittsburgh and Penn State. West Chester received 70.1 quality points out of a possible 110.1 and were rated ahead of such schools as Villanova, Temple, Rutgers, Columbia, Brown and Cornell. Following East Carolina, the Rams face, on successive weekends, East Stroudsiburg, Millersville, Bloomsburg, Ithaca, Kutztown, Mansfield and Cheyney. The Purple and Gold banner will again fly high over tha gridiron.
