Ex-Law dean addresses constitutional rights

Title

Ex-Law dean addresses constitutional rights

Subject

West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Student Newspapers, The Quad, 1987 Vol. 55 No. 25

Description

This article appeared on the second page of the May 5th, 1987 edition of "The Quad" a student-run newspaper. The article explains that constitutional rights entitled to all members of The United States are often "unfulfilled, and even stifled, for black Americans." This perspective is that of Carl E. Singley, the former dean of Temple University School of Law, and he argues that equality, as mentioned in the constitution, is only available to those with white skin. Singley further examined this issue when he spoke in Philips Library on April 28th, an event that was sponsored by the Frederick Douglass Society. He concludes his speech with a call to action for all black individuals, as a means to achieve equality. These include: "Be a leader," and "Provide a black perspective on all issues that you feel are pertinent," among others.
